This is the sketch, or more like sketchy ideas I have for Advanced media production. The bullet points are the answers to the task descriptions outlinedd int he assessment.

1.1 Theories that I can still remember and have a great effect on me are the ideas of the medium is the message by Marshall McLuhan, Cyborg theory, the idea of the hybrid identity of man and machine/technology and the changes of time and space due to media advancements by Harold Innis
1.2 I have learnt a lot of technical aspects for most of the creative suite programs, which allow me to express my personal creative side. Learnt how to work my ideas, assess them and make them compatible, learn to work as a group, share and analysis multiple ideas and come out with the best option. I like how we get to make these cool projects and work on briefs, and don’t like the lack of time to complete, and the chopping and changing of programs to learn, only getting a basic outline on everything instead of specialising on a couple. I am amazed at how animation and sound students create their works, unlike video; they don’t have constraints on the outside world, and have a wide scope in which to present their work. They have to create from scratch, which can be overwhelming as well as liberating, and the time needed to create such a short piece shows the work ethic they bring to creation.
1.3 There are no particular works that I greatly dislike, but in terms of sound, I am not a fan of the ambient sound movement, the ones were the evoke a sense of calmness, it doesn’t seem to move me as other experimental sound does, just makes me want to sleep more, thats why I can never meditaite. It seems to make you want to think about things but really doesn’t push an idea on the listener. I like the ida of groundbreaking stuff, even if it is really raw and unstructured, listen to ‘new music up late‘ on 92.9 , Sat at 10:30pm( I think thats ABC radio). Anything where they test the boundaries of what is legitimate music, away from contemporary/pop music. Mainly experimental stuff.
1.4 I develop ideas according to the project briefs, without them I gain to many ideas and move in tangents that don’t work in my favour most of the time. I need design constraints otherwise too many ideas form, often extravagant and not really attainable. Usually I get some concepts and things that influence me/or things I’ve seen and liked, and try to push or add my own thing towards it. If the idea evolves, I may move towards that. I don’t usually stick to the one concept though. I work in short intense periods due to time constraints, but also because I work in creative burst, and when its flowing, you just go with it and check it out later. I prefer working at night, was never really a morning person, waking up is the hardest part. The easiest part of production is the actual making of the project, when your on the computers doing it, the hardest part id coming up with the ideas. I guess I admire those who have that balance of theory and technical, and also those who can stick to the one idea/pan and see it through.
PROJECT IDEAS

The idea would revolve around what can be done with a lounge or where you can find a lounge, but emphasising the soundscape that I have created. I took my sound style dislikes (ambient sounds) and realized that they are used more often then not around lounges, particularly places invoving waiting and lounging, usually at the lobby in hotels and buildings, the waiting room in medical centres, restautrants, even at shopping centres/supermarkets (if you block the noise you can faintly here it in the background playing really softly). These ambient sounds are often used for relaxing and calming purposes and unsually don’t get acknowledged by people because they are meant to come unnoticed. But whenever I do here it, it bugs me, irritaites me, which is the exact opposite. My sound style likes, which is definitely not considered easy-listening music, provides me with that relaxing calming sensation. So I will play with the idea of putting more dubstep beats and sounds in areas where usually these more ambient sounds are projected. Maybe I could go into a shopping centre or hotel and switch up the music and get video footage of peoples reactions. That would be hilarious.

1. Being more of a visual person, my ideas revolve around what I can see, other then what I hear. Doing sound I have to swap these around. I was thinking of doing a sound based video where the visual cues would enhance and emphasis the sound created. These are done in several music video clips, where the visuals come second to the sound, but also need the sound otherwise become just a bunch of random images. The ones that I like the most are the following:-
• Star Guitar by The Chemical Brothers
• Dr Love by The Bumblebeez
• Frontier Psychiatrist by The Avalanches
You can find the youtube videos on mylists on diigo.
So I would create a soundscape where it starts off really ambient, calm that would then trasnform into a dubstep beat. The visual cues would start with a lounge, at a location which would typically be playing this ambient music and then as the music shifts, the people shift, with the cutting and editing going along with music, either ending with the people on the lounge getting used to the music or the music can shift back to the original ambient sounds and go back to normal.
2. Create a podcast radio show, where we would get to both show our ideas through script and sound. I would be able to experiment with radio layout, speak about ideas and topics, either general or from the course plus play around with music. So it would be a mixture of me playing the host, and then showing off my work as an artist. Podcast that I do listen to are on Rinse fm (www.rinse.fm) and Ricky Gervais’s guide to… (insert random topic) and try to get a blend of the two. Maybe make it an easy listening readio station like Richard Mercer, and it would be the agument of what constitutes easy-listening music, where there will be three hosts with contrasting musical tastes. I will play stuff that I have created during class, and maybe trying mixing because I have decks at my house (owned by my roommate).

STYLE MANIFESTO
The sound that I have been getting really into is the dubstep scene. It has a lot of deep sub bass lines, really in your face and intense. It forces you to listen because it’s very intense. It has a dark tone to it and mixes with building up sound to just constant changes from light to heavy sounds. It fits in with my personal style, because at times I am calm and then ‘bang’ all of a sudden, it hits you and you go with it. Some artists include, Benga, Skream, Distance, N-type. A direct cousin of that style is grime, which has some drum and bass elements but involves rapping by several MCs. Some artist include Dizzie Rascal, Skepta, JMC.
I don’t like ambient sounds, the ones where the music remains the same throughout and is constant. The music drags on and remains the same, there is change that occurs e.g. Enya. I also dont like most things on contemporary radio stations, everything is too repetitive, similar, and everything tht they say is new is just the same. They say that with all music genres but this is particularly relevant to pop music. I hate listening to pop music, I’d rather listen to ABC classical fm, seriously!
PRACTICE MANIFESTO

My practice style is usually driven in the moment, where I sporadically come up with something and work on it. In a sense it is good because I come up with creative ideas but sometimes lack in structure. I would like to develop on building on the finer touches, usually I always just leave it raw or unchecked, leaving spots of amateurish mistakes that would have been fixed had I double-checked or fine tuned my work. This can be seen on all my previous works. Also I have also been very visual minded in my approach to most things. I noticed that last semester when doing video, een though I thought i did well in video editing and shooting, the sound aspect of all my videos was very bad, and I decided to do sound in order to better myself in that aspect. Usually I base my ideas on the limited time I have and try to operate around that to maximise my efforts. This usually restrains me from trying really difficult projects, and forces me sometimes to try more simple projects, but doing them really well.

Okay so I am just posting this because we have to follow instructions and it will help us figure out how to use all these tools. I feel that I have to write something everytime I post that will somehow be worth reading instead of ‘here is a link to another persons blog’. So here I go.

Lets say that we are just skimming along diigo, twitter, wordpress etc and stumble upon something as we go through it, for example I was just reading someones post, I can communicate with him by creating a permalink. Okay I was just reading The Digital Digest, and just want to say that he makes several good points about the changes of technology and how it affects us and our transition into the digital internet stratosphere. We can now discuss or rebound ideas and thoughts through twitter and wordpress. But this is in terms of intellectuals voicing opinions, using sources from wherever, and this is good for that.

Or I can just put up something that I found amusing, some links shown from friends and put it here and show to another group of friends in uni. Its this is why your fat if anyone wants to have a geez. This has nothing relevant but just shows how easy it is to share what it is we are doing at any given time and place.

How are we suppose to connect each of the individual programs you told us to register for, and produce something that helps us to figure out what it is that we are trying to figure out about the programs we are connecting with? I dont like how we are learning and doing stuff at the same time, it confuses the hell out of me. I have no IDEA where I am going with this, and I think its because I’v e been up all night and trying to figure out how to use everything. So I’ll just leave it at that until I have something actually productive to say.

‘Media’, is my answer when people ask,”What do I study?” And then we go through the whole process of catch up where we pretend to be more interested in what the person has to say by asking follow up questions. I should really master my answer here, because you should really know what you are studying, but whenever it comes up I am always dumbfounded with a response. Why do you do it? What does it entail? Where will it get you a job in the future? I just say that I do it because I am interested in it, the process of communicating, creating, and understanding the medium. At first I wanted to get into filmmaking, learn to video edit, use cameras, and learn to use the audiovisual equipment. This is because I love films, how they are created, and of course watching them, since I don’t know when. But also I like, the multimedia side, even though I may not be as artistic or tech savvy as some of the people I study with, I like to see how they do it, particularly with all the creative suite stuff like Photoshop and Flash. And if you call watching a lot of films, looking at videos on you youtube, finding cool stuff like artworks, graffiti etc and creating random things a unique perspective /area of expertise on media then I am an expert, or at least a professional amateur. And what drives me to study media, it is because it is always changing, always expanding and evolving and will be forever relevant in society well after I’ve become obsolete. What do I bring to the network table, hopefully some delicious goodies that are easy to digest. I like to think that what I think is enough, but it probably isn’t. Anyway, its up to the network to decide if what I’m doing is adding anything, all I can say is that right now, I’m adding this first post.
